My name is Loo and my son Oon is 5 years old, we hail from Singapore. My son had been sent to see the doctor twice when he was going on to 4 months old due to coughing, but he never recovered from this illness. One night, he was crying and panting non-stop. At that time, both my husband and I thought that it was only a mere discomfort and thus we did not take immediate action to send him to the hospital. But by the next morning we found out that his lips had turned black and he coughed non-stop, so we decided to have him checked by a pediatrician in Johor Bahru. Even after the examination, the specialist could not draw an absolute conclusion that he was suffering from asthma. As the condition was critical, the pediatrician suggested sending him to the Puteri Specialist Hospital in Johor Bahru. According to the specialist there, he had to depend on oxygen supply to aid in his breathing as he was too young and at the same time, some medical devices were used to draw phlegm out of his lung. At that time, he had to receive treatment in the hospital for 5 days.
A month after he was discharged, he suffered from another bout of attack, so we again sent him to the hospital for the same treatment for another 3 days. He had to depend on oxygen supply again to assist him respire and phlegm had to be removed from the lung. But this time, the doctor confirmed that Kai Fan had been diagnosed with asthma. The third time when he came down with the illness, Kai Fan was hospitalised for treatment again for 3 days. In other words, when he was four to seven months old, Kai Fan had been sent to the hospital for three times due to asthma and pneumonia (inflammation of the lungs). Apart from staying in the hospital for medical treatment, the doctor also provided Kai Fan with two types of asthma sprays: one was used for the prevention of asthma and the other is used at the time when he suffered from asthma.
I believe that Lingzhi is helpful in the treatment of asthma, and therefore when Kai Fan was seven month old, we started mixing a capsule of Lingzhi and two capsules of Natural Pollen into the milk that we fed him. Subsequently, the dosage of Lingzhi and Natural Pollen were both increased to 3 and 6 capsules, respectively. We fed him once every 4 hours. Approximately two days after he had started consuming Lingzhi, his body began to show vertigo reactions. Rashes were developed in all parts of his body. Besides, he also suffered from constipation, coughing and asthma. This situation continued for about 2 weeks. However, he no longer had to rely on oxygen supply when he had asthma, which differed from the situation before he started consuming Lingzhi. What he needed was only the asthmatic drug to calm the situation down.
Occasionally, his asthma and coughing problems would recur even a year after we let him take Lingzhi. However, the situation has become less severe compared to the past. Now that he has been raking Lingzhi and Natural Pollen for 4 years, there is no reoccurrence of the sicknesses and he has fully recovered from asthma and pneumonia. He is now in kindergarten and is very active, energetic and healthy.
Kai Fan was diagnosed with asthma and pneumonia, and had to rely on bronchodilator or steroid when asthma attacked him. He always had an asthma attack, and in the eyes of a doctor, he or she would prescribe some medication that only works temporarily or move the patients to an environment with less exposure to anaphylactogen. In the case of Kai Fan, the greet results and changes that he got were mainly due to Lingzhi consumption. To date, steroid is the most popular drug used in the medical field to treat allergy problem. Although it is effective, however many serious side effects have been observed by the usage of steroid in the treatment, such as lunar or moon face, pimples, muscle thinning, osteoporosis, shrinking of the adrenal gland, etc. Besides, steroid would also lead to the onset of high blood pressure, diabetes as well as the development of peptic ulcer, weakening the body immune system. Apart from that, the body will slowly develop resistance to the drug if it is taken in the long run, which causes an increase in the dosage that need to be consumed in order to have an effect on the disease. In other words, the side effects will also increase to the same extent.
The amazing thing is that when we combine both Lingzhi and steroid in the treatment of allergy, Lingzhi does not only act as a prerequisite to reduce the required dosage of steroid but to unleash a high level of efficacy lessen the side effects. As for allergic asthma or other allergic diseases, allergy symptoms are associated with the activity of histamine. Histamine is released into the human body due to rupture of mastocytes leading to the establishment of allergic reaction. Lingzhi could prevent the rupture of mastocytes and therefore inhibits the release of histamine, which ultimately eliminates the onset of allergic reaction. This is the reason why allergic asthma could be gradually cured. Asthma due to histamine can also be inhibited: Guinea pigs were placed inside an aerosol container, followed by the spraying of high concentrated histamine solution at a constant concentration to induce panting, breathing difficulty, twitching of the muscles and eventually the animals would turn upside down. If 5-10g/kg of Lingzhi tincture extract, 3.75g/kg of Lingzhi extract and 5c.c./kg of pre-incubated concentrated Lingzhi solution were injected into the abdominal cavity of the animals prior to the test, it prevented a small number of the animals from not panting and also prolonged the incubation period of asthma.
When the Lingzhi extract and pre-incubated concentrated Lingzhi solution were given to the normal animals, they relaxed the rhythm of breathing. As for pneumonia, it is occasionally caused by bacterial or viral infection, for instance, Pneumococcus or Staphylococcus is the major bacterial species responsible for bacteria-causing pneumonia. Lingzhi is antibechic and effective in drawing phlegm out of the trachea. From the animal experimentation, it was proven that Lingzhi is capable of repressing histamine and other chemicals that contract the bronchi, while it is also effective in treating spasmolysis (unconscious cramp). Although Lingzhi does not possess any inhibitory effects on bacterial growth, it enhances the proliferation of natural killer cells that eliminate foreign bodies or pathogens invading our body. In 2,000 cases of chronic bronchitis, due to the variations in Lingzhi preparation and administrative dosage, the absolute efficiency rate was in between 60.0-97.6%, in which the most frequently occurring item was around 80%, while the efficacy was between 20.0-75.0%. It was found that Lingzhi was more effective against asthmatic pneumonia than simple pneumonia. It is also powerful in treating symptoms such as coughing, phlegm and asthma, especially in the treatment of asthma.
When Lingzhi tincture and decocta were used in the medication for asthmatic tracheitis, it yielded am 87.5% effective rate, with 48% total recovery. The extracted Lingzhi active ingredient was effective in treating asthma of children with an 80% effective rate, in which 46.7% was significantly effective. The sulphur element found in active Lingzhi extract was the major component in treating bronchitis (Tasaka et al., 1988), while the medicinal compound of Lingzhi reduces the level of lactic dehydrogenase and DNA content in the body of a patient who suffered from chronic bronchitis, thus inhibiting the inflammatory reaction caused by the disease. The C1 and C2 acids found in Lingzhi are responsible for the medicinal activity in suppressing the release of histamine by mastocytes, which prevents the allergic reaction of the body (Kohda et al., 1985). Most of the patients who received Lingzhi treatment have experienced the improvement of physique, sleeping behavior and appetite, and have built up resistance against cold and diseases, while they are also more vigorous in daily activity. Besides, Lingzhi is also good in nourishing one’s health and increasing vitality.
